This poster explores the synergistic potential of fisheries technology and indigenous knowledge to promote sustainable fisheries management in West Africa. Recognizing the rich cultural practices and ecological insights embedded in indigenous knowledge systems, alongside modern technological advancements, offers a holistic approach to addressing overfishing, habitat degradation, and resource depletion. The study highlights successful case studies where community-based indigenous practices, such as seasonal closures and traditional monitoring, have been effectively integrated with innovative technologies like GIS mapping, fish stock assessments, and real-time data collection. This integrated approach not only enhances resource management efficiency but also strengthens local communities' stewardship and resilience. Challenges such as knowledge gaps, technological access, and policy constraints are examined, alongside recommendations for fostering participatory governance frameworks that respect indigenous rights while leveraging technological tools. The poster emphasizes that sustainable fisheries management in West Africa requires a balanced integration of traditional ecological knowledge and modern science, ensuring ecological sustainability, socio-economic benefits, and cultural preservation. This approach offers a replicable model for other regions facing similar challenges, contributing to global efforts toward sustainable and inclusive fisheries governance.
