Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming how marine data are collected, analysed, and interpreted—from autonomous platforms to large‑scale ecological forecasting. This panel explores not just what AI can do for marine science, but how it should be used. We will examine emerging issues around governance, transparency and reproducibility, Indigenous data sovereignty, equity of access, and the development of community standards for responsible AI adoption. Drawing on perspectives from research, policy, and practice, the discussion will consider how marine scientists can harness AI’s potential while safeguarding trust, inclusivity, and long‑term stewardship of ocean data and knowledge.
