The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (Reef Authority) depends on timely and relevant knowledge to manage the Reef in a changing climate. To remain effective and adaptive Reef managers, we must define the knowledge that we need, why we need it, and how it will directly support management decisions and actions that protect the Great Barrier Reef and the communities that rely on it.
Having a Science Strategy helps the Reef Authority set a forward path. It helps us work intentionally with the people who influence, support and conduct science. In this presentation we’ll highlight key themes across our priority knowledge needs and why actionable science is essential. We’ll also invite you to consider how your work could help answer some of our burning questions.
There is more than one way to bring relevant science opportunities and outputs to the attention of the Reef Authority. As we strengthen our approaches, we’re increasingly focused on the co-production and sharing of knowledge that will directly support evidence-based decisions.
