The Eden Breakwater Wharf Extension Project, Port of Eden, NSW, involved deepening of the berth pocket and cruise ship wharf extension, to take advantage of the growth in the cruise ship industry. Worley prepared a State Significant Infrastructure (SSI) Application under the NSW EP&A Act 1979 and accompanying Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and specialist marine studies (including marine ecology, water and sediment quality assessments), Response to Submissions Report, EPBC Act Referral and Sea Dumping Permit Variation for the project. Worley was subsequently awarded the Environmental Representative role to manage compliance of the contractor’s activities against the Infrastructure Approval conditions and prepared the Construction Environmental Management Plan and Operational Environmental Management Plan and associated Sub-Plans for the project. Worley successfully managed the parallel preparation of documentation to support the Federal and State planning approval pathways and associated securing of permits and licences. Worley functioned as an integrated design, environmental, planning and construction management team. Since the original approval and construction, Worley have supported the NSW Department of Industry and Port Authority of NSW (the current owner and operator of the Cruise Wharf) with securing three modification approvals. Most recently, an Operational Water Quality Management Plan has been developed and implemented for the operational terminal. We present this important port infrastructure project and key marine environmental issues and outcomes.
