Tara Jones Australian Marine Sciences Association 2026 Conference

Tara Jones

Tara brings extensive experience in waste education, behaviour change programs, and hands-on work in the waste industry, including thousands of hours sorting through garbage and recycling at landfill and recycling centres across Australia. Designing and delivering technical projects as an environmental consultant clearly showed her the problems, and her passion for environmental conservation led her on a journey to find and advocate for the solutions. Tara has a deep understanding of waste disposal behaviours and composition, environmental impacts, and waste management in Australia. Tara joined AMCS in 2023, when given the opportunity to apply consulting skills to advocacy, with the aim to reduce plastic packaging pollution at the source. In her role as Program Manager (Plastics & Packaging) at AMCS, Tara is leading Australia’s first independent audit of plastic packaging in supermarkets, and is advocating for strong regulations for the packaging industry in Australia.
