Alfredo Marchio
I am a PhD candidate at the Minderoo–UWA Deep-Sea Research Centre, where I study the taxonomy and ecology of glass sponges from bathyal to hadal depths, focusing in particular on characterising uncharted sponge gardens. I like to define myself as a “benthonologist”: someone professionally committed to staring at the seafloor and getting excited about whatever weird animal live on it. In fact, I am also interested in other benthic groups, especially cnidarians such as actiniarians and black corals, and echinoderms such as brisingids, feather stars, and sea lilies.
