Phytoplankton and zooplankton form the foundation of the Southern Ocean food web. My research centres on the ecology of Southern Ocean plankton communities and their role in Antarctic marine ecosystems. My primary research focuses on the Southern Ocean Continuous Plankton Recorder (SO-CPR) program, co-funded by the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS), which provides long-term observations of plankton communities across the Southern Ocean between Australia and Antarctica. Using these observations, I investigate changes in plankton distribution, abundance, and biodiversity in response to environmental variability and climate change. I also study the feeding ecology of Antarctic krill, with a particular focus on their grazing dynamics and ecological links to sea-ice-associated communities.
