Jennie Mallela
Dr Jennie Mallela is a marine environmental (bio-geo) scientist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Australian National University whose work focuses on marine ecosystem resilience, land-based pollution, and catchment-to-reef linkages in many locations including Australia’s Indian Ocean Territories. She leads Reef Science Consulting and is a member of MORDOR (Management of Rivers Discharging into Ocean Realms), a multi-stakeholder initiative strengthening governance, monitoring, and knowledge exchange across the Indian Ocean region. Jennie’s research has informed national park management plans, ministerial briefs, UNESCO evaluations, and long-term monitoring programs, and she has over 50 publications and government reports. She is widely recognised for building science–policy–community partnerships, delivering applied solutions for remote island ecosystems, and leading impactful collaborations that support resilient and sustainable marine futures.
