Sue Barrell
Following a long career at the Bureau of Meteorology, Dr Sue Barrell AO FTSE retired in 2018 from her final role as Chief Scientist. She contributed significantly to national and international advancements in climate science and policy, integrated earth observations and data policy. Sue’s passion for science, research infrastructure, the interconnected Earth system, diversity and equity endures through leadership, board, council and advisory roles across the scientific, technology and education sectors. Among other roles, Sue chairs the National Marine Science Committee and the ANU Institute for Space (InSpace) Advisory Board, and is the Australian independent representative on the Australian and New Zealand International Scientific Drilling Consortium (ANZIC) Governing Council. She is committed to mentoring and empowering girls and women in science and leadership. Sue was recognised as an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2022 for services to meteorology and research and she was the 67th annual Laureate of the IMO (International Meteorological Organization) Prize for her international science leadership.
