Andreas Seger

I work at the interface of marine biotoxins, harmful algae, and seafood safety, with a strong focus on turning science into applied solutions that protect our aquaculture and wild fisheries, as well as the environment. My research combines improved algal toxin detection with a deeper understanding of how these metabolites accumulate and clear in marine animals. I love using this understanding to develop and implement practical responses to harmful algal blooms, all the way from immediate mitigation actions through to long‑term management. I enjoy collaborating closely with industry, regulators and scientists as part of my work and contributing to the advancement of national seafood safety through the SafeFish National Seafood Safety and Market Access Program.
